Dog hunting season is now open

I’m a HUGE fan of Bourj Hammoud and I’ve mentioned it a number of times before but I have to say this is just horrible. The Bourj Hammoud municipality has put up flyers around the area telling residents if they hear sounds of gun shots not to worry they’re just hunting down stray dogs!

BETA (Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) contacted the mayor of Burj Hammoud telling him there are other more humane methods of capturing the strays and solving the problem for the long run and that they would be willing to help but the reply they got from the mayor was that bullets are cheaper.

So if you can please politely contact Mr. Antranig Missirian, the head of the Burj Hammoud Municipality on 01 260155 ext 147 or send him a fax to 01 260156 and let him know that you are against the shooting of animals.

    Dear Mark,
Thank you for your ongoing concern.
Please note that Mayor Antranig Missirian did not say to BETA that bullits are cheaper. It is true others have said so before, but not Mayor Missirian(kindly fix the post).
Mr. Missirian was informed of the humane & long-term way to deal with the overpopulation of dogs & cats; we therefore ask all the animal friends to contact the mayor & politely disagree with the brutal way the municipality chose to deal with this issue.
    Thank you

I think BETA should contact Ziad Baroud because i am sure he will be more cooperative than Burj Hammoud’s mayor.

Can’t believe they are shooting down dogs just like that.

guys the flyer is 9 yrs old!!! the number on it is 44/2001

  5. Najib says:

    Ali,
This is a recent event and the number you mentioned has nothing to do with when the flyer was released.

This is one of the greatest proofs that we always put ignorants in charge of our protection and needs. All the other countries are arising and developing by making Animal Cruelty a legal crime while our officials here are the ones going around and shooting dogs.. Retards.
