Biometric passports are officially available as of today. Anyone can apply for the new passport and those who wish to replace their old passports can also do so. According to the below FTV report, the documents needed are as follows:
– Passport Request Form to be filled out at the mayor’s office.
– Applicant’s original Individual Civil ID (Ikhraj Kayd Fardi) or or his original new Lebanese I.D. card.
– One recent color photo showing full details of the face with a white background.
– The old passport if available.
– The price will remain the same, $40 or 60,000 LL for one year and $200 or 300,000 LL for 5 years.
Design wise, I think they should have kept the big Cedar tree in the middle showing like the one before. It’s a nice and modern-looking passport but the Cedar tree in the middle is barely showing.
Those who just renewed their passports will NOT need to replace their existing ones. As for Lebanese expats, I believe they should follow the same procedure at any embassy. Check out this useful [link] taken from the website of the Lebanese Embassy in Washington.

المباشرة بإصدار جوازات السفر البيومترية للمواطنين اللبنانيين إعتباراً من تاريخ 01/08/2016
تعلن المديرية العامة للأمن العام أنها ستباشر إعتباراً من تاريخ 01/08/2016 إصدار جوازات السفر البيومترية للمواطنين اللبنانيين.
تقبل الطلبات في كافة مراكز الأمن العام الإقليمية وفي دائرة العلاقات العامة بإستثناء المراكز التالية : اقليم الخروب ، الهرمل ، دير الأحمر ، شمسطار ، راشيا الوادي ، مشغرة ، زغرتا ، بشري ، المنية ، ببنين ، مشمش ( عكار) ، الزهراني ، جباع و شبعا ، وذلك لحين الإنتهاء من عملية الربط الإلكتروني بالمديرية العامة للأمن العام.
يمكن للمواطنين القاطنين ضمن نطاق عمل المراكز المذكورة أعلاه تقديم طلباتهم في أقرب مركز لمكان سكنهم.
المستندات المطلوبة :
° طلب جواز سفر موقع من مختار محلة القيد أو السكن.
° بطاقة هوية تظهر ملامح صاحب العلاقة وبيان قيد إفرادي لا يعود تاريخ إصداره لأكثر من ثلاثة أشهر.
° صورة شمسية ملونة حديثة غير مسحوبة عن صورة سابقة قياس 3.5 * 4.5 سم تظهر الوجه كاملاً على خلفية بيضاء مصادق عليها بخاتم المختار وتوقيعه.
° جواز السفر السابق في حال وجوده.
° الرسم المالي المقرر قانوناً.
– يُمنح القاصر دون الثلاث سنوات جواز سفر إستناداً لبيان قيد إفرادي لا يعود تاريخ إصداره لأكثر من ثلاثة أشهر مع صورة عنه مرفقاً بكافة المستندات المذكورة أعلاه.
– لا يُمنح القاصر جواز سفر إلا بعد حيازته على موافقة الوالدين أو الوصي الشرعي.
– تبقى جوازات السفر الحالية صالحة للإستعمال حتى إنتهاء تاريخ صلاحيتها.
– يستمر منح جوازات السفر اللبنانية ( أنموذج 2003 ) للبنانيين المقيمين في الخارج الذين يتقدمون بطلبات للإستحصال على جوازات سفر لدى السفارات والبعثات الدبلوماسية اللبنانية المعتمدة في الخارج.
ملاحظة : في حال عدم حيازة المواطن اللبناني الراغب بالإستحصال على جواز سفر لبناني بيومتري بطاقة هوية ، يُسمح له إستثنائياً ولغاية 30/11/2016 بتقديم بيان قيد إفرادي لا يعود تاريخ إصداره لأكثر من ثلاثة أشهر شرط أن يتم تعبئة طلب جواز السفر لدى مختار محل قيد صاحب العلاقة حصراً ، على أن تعتمد بطاقة الهوية اللبنانية كمستند إلزامي إضافة إلى بيان القيد الإفرادي إعتباراً من 01/12/2016.
In addition, the new passport comes in 6 different flavors, bearing a different text label showing on the lower left corner of the front page, against a distinct background color:
– Dark Blue: Passport (the regular one)
– Black: Special Passport
– Brown: Laissez Passer
– Burgundy: Diplomatic Passport
– Grey: Service Passport
– Marine Blue: Travel Document for Palestinian Refugees
Hey guys what if I have the American Visa (till 2019) on my old passport which is valid till 2017 then what will happen to my American visa when I renew my passport?
