Georges and Amal Clooney are launching an initiative through “The Clooney Foundation for Justice” to help the 250,000+ refugee children in Lebanon who are not in school. They are getting support from Google, as well as Virgin Unite and The Radcliffe Foundation, to empower this lost generation and they’re aiming to enroll 10,000 refugee children by next September and 50,000 more by 2018.

The Clooneys are currently working with SABIS and are planning to launch up to 10 schools as close as possible to the communities with the highest need in September 2017. [Source]

Bringing any form of education to refugees in Lebanon and anywhere else is better than no education. Personally speaking, I love the initiative but I wish they would start by investing in enhancing our existing public schools which are hosting a lot of Syrian children. In fact, I think there were more registered Syrian children than Lebanese in some public schools in Lebanon.

In all cases, education is the best weapon against extremism and terrorism and any initiative that will help cope with this catastrophic situation and offer support to these vulnerable children is more than welcome!
