Lebanese men can’t beat or kill their women anymore

[Source]

As absurd as the title may seem, that’s what the law amendments proposed by MP Sami Gemayel few months ago were all about and today they were finally approved by the government and put into action.

The old law basically stated that if a man were to surprise his wife or one of his female relatives in bed with someone, and committed a crime against them, it would not be considered as a first degree murder but an “honor killing” and would receive a lower sentence.

Mabrouk for all Lebanese women and men!

Mabrouk to cheating women in Lebanon, your husband will think twice before killing you if he caught you :).

Heheheh I love Sami,Fares grow up w kabber 3a2letak like the rest of the Lebanese,ma ento aktar sha3b they cheat on their wives/husbands so I think the law should apply on both, anyway baladkon za3ran,I’m not surprised if they both cheat especially in your economic situation where guys go clubbing for sex and money while girls make themselves innoncent and hunt for a rich husband, oooh and don’t reply like a one year old baby Lebanese like the rest of you do

Fares; whether you are a man or a woman makes no difference. You seem a tad ignorant. Have you heard of divorce? Get with the program dude/dudette!!! A woman is not your slave. She is to be loved and nourished.

LOL people are so sensitive about this subject
Fares’ comment was sarcasm… and ROAR goes everyone :)

The law is absurd… I guess it is fitting to have an absurd comment about it too :P

Jenna, I suppose you are the one who should do all the growing up here. You just attacked the entire Lebanese people with a blatant stereotype. There are cheaters in every culture, Lebanese or not. I guess am glad am a mature one year old rather than being a immature “grown-up”.

Jeff, agreed. Men and women should be treated equally in all laws, gender makes no difference. I thought the sarcasm was implied, I guess I should have added the /sarcasm tag to my comment :).

    Fares,

Accepted. This topic can not be treated with sarcasm or lightly. It is deadly. Women have been abused in their daily lives in Lebanon…Be that mentally or physically…and it encompasses the whole society irrespective of sect or level of income. I have heard time and again whereas educated women describe their “acceptance” of this abuse as a compromise to be with their “man” (what a man it takes to abuse a woman eh?) . Time for a culture change in the society.
