The decree that was issued last year in order to prevent illegally imported devices and protect the consumer from counterfeits might be dropped next week by the new Telecom Minister according to reports from Lebanonfiles. I really hope this is true because this decree is absolutely useless and has been causing headaches for all parties involved. In fact, it is not even working properly as my friend last week couldn’t register his iPhone because someone had also an iPhone (Fake one probably) in Lebanon with the same IMEI but registered to another line.

When I traveled to Lebanon in February I had forgotten to bring my Lebanese number so I decided to buy a new number. The counter that registers your phone at the airport told me its a long and complex process (have to go to alpha and request them to deactivate my old number and it would be activated within 48 hours). I even called both Alpha and MTC and they had informed me of the same. Since it was late on a Saturday night and I was only there for a few days, I ended up buying a cheap phone and connecting to my iphone via hotspot which is utterly ridiculous!
