The Chain Effect is organizing for the second year in a row a “Bike to Work” event whereas thousands of people will be leaving their cars at home and hitting the streets of Beirut with their bikes. All participating bike shops will be offering free bike rental and there will be three different bike stations for people living outside Beirut.

For those living outside Beirut, all you need to do is park your car and pick up a free bike at any of 3 the park and ride bike stations at Forum de Beyrouth, Spinneys Jnah, or Hippodrome. Urbanista, Paul & Cafe Younes will be offering free snacks and drinks to all participants and Universities will also be taking part in this initiative whereas LAU’s parking will only be restricted to bikes on the day of the event and the Swiss Ambassador as well as his staff will be going to work by bike.

I wish I could bike to work but I don’t think it’s feasible all the way from Jeita. Nevertheless, if you live around Beirut, you should give it a try. Everything is for free, the whole idea is to have less people in cars and more people on bikes. It’s still a far-fetched dream but we need to start with initiatives like that.
