Ma’amoul is one of many shared heritages in the Levant across religions, as it is prepared during Easter for Christians and Eid for Muslims. The tradition of Ma’amoul dates back to Mesopotamia and Egyptian Copt’s KAHK is considered as being the ancestor of modern day Ma’amoul.
Quoting Heritage & Roots, “Ma’amoul molds are shared from one generation to another and Ma’amoul reflects how our mothers keep us connected to our heritage through food”.
Here’s an 1885 Ma’amoul recipe from Beirut shared on Instagram. Happy Eid & Easter to all our readers!
