Melhem Khalaf, President of the Beirut Bar Association, declared today that the committee in charge of helping the families of the Beirut Blast victims has filed over 600 lawsuits and that a second wave of lawsuits will follow. The total number of cases being treated is over 1400 so far.
The aim from these lawsuits is to achieve justice for the victims, but this will be a long and painful process as the authorities have been stalling for over 3 months now and we haven’t heard anything yet from the ongoing investigation. The lawsuits are a good starting point, but unless we get a judiciary body capable of holding those in power accountable, justice will never prevail.
