How should we handle the ongoing garbage crisis? Should we acquire incinerators? How can we manage such facilities without polluting? What kind of waste should we incinerate?
Amid the lack of transparency from the Lebanese authorities in regards to ongoing waste management plans, Ziad Abi Chaker, known as “The Garbage King of Beirut”, paid a visit to a waste management facility in Denmark to inquire further on incinerators and documented them in a 30 minute video show below.
It is important to watch the below documentary to understand better the pros and cons of incinerators, the technology behind it, the risks associated to it and their impact on our lives and the environment. We need to understand what the authorities are bringing in, because if they can’t even manage a simple recycling facility, I find it hard to believe that they will be able to manage an incinerator without polluting and while generating energy.
On a side note, I don’t understand why Ziad hasn’t been approached yet for such projects, whether for consultancy or implementation. We have an engineer fully dedicated to waste management solutions yet we’re looking for outside expertise instead while burying our waters with garbage.
