Lebanon and Syria Agree to Ceasefire

The Lebanese and Syrian authorities have agreed to a ceasefire after two days of clashes along the border. Seven Lebanese were killed and 52 were injured in the recent clashes, including a 4-year-old girl. The violence began when three Syrian soldiers were killed by Lebanese armed men, allegedly associated with Hezbollah, prompting Syrian forces to retaliate by shelling Lebanese towns.

These border regions have long been hotspots for smuggling and remain under the control of heavily armed clans. With Hezbollah losing its strategic ally in Syria, these regions have become more vulnerable. Unless the Lebanese Army takes control, we will continue to witness further armed clashes and military tensions.

It should be our top priority to secure all our borders with Syria and disarm any armed groups operating in the area.
