Statista released a list showing which countries spent the most on cigar on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day and Lebanon has topped that list, followed by the U.S. In other words, Lebanese spend 37$ per year on cigars, which is the highest per capita spend on cigars in the world. Qatar & Bahrain are the only other Arab countries featured in the top ten.
How is that possible? Smoking is unfortunately still very widespread in Lebanon and alongside genuine cigar lovers, many people smoke it to look fancy. Add to that the fact that there are no smoking laws implemented anywhere, thereby encouraging people to smoke cigars indoors as well as outdoors anywhere they like.
