Twelve years ago, we were promised 24/7 electricity by Lebanon’s energy minister at the time Gebran Bassil, but we all know how that went.
This week, Energy Minister Walid Fayyad mentioned during an interview with Al-Manar that we should expect 24/7 electricity by 2025 or 2026 if all parties commit to his proposed plan. Until then, we will get 8 to 10 hours of electricity by Spring 2022 and 16 to 18 hours of electricity by 2023.
It’s still not clear what Fayyad’s plan consists of, but one can only hope it consists of long-term sustainable solutions, and facilitate private initiatives aimed at encouraging renewable energies.
