Every time I see a whole family without any helmet on a tiny scooter driving around, I try to stay as far away as possible from them because they’re not only jeopardizing their lives but ours as well. If God forbid you hit one of those scooters with your car and it’s 100% the scooter’s fault, you get screwed by the law and might risk jail time if anyone on that scooter dies, especially if it’s a kid, even if it’s not your fault.
I know at least a couple of friends who hit a scooter driving recklessly and spent years going to courts and paying money to the family even though the driver was at fault. One of them even spent a week in prison because the motorist died. I totally understand that these families are poor and cannot afford buying a car or even helmets, but the law is the law and it’s unfair for a responsible driver to be the only party to blame in such situations.
Also there are other cheap alternatives than putting your whole family at risk like that: Why not take the bus or a cab?
