Just when we thought Salameh was untouchable, Judge Jamal al-Hajjar decided to arrest him after a hearing at the country’s judicial palace.
Salameh is the subject of multiple investigations into alleged financial misconducts but the case that got him jailed was the one involving transactions conducted between the BDL and a Lebanese financial firm (Optimum) in 2015-2016.
Let’s hope this is the beginning of a serious investigation and not an attempt to keep Salameh from being pursued abroad as he’s facing corruption charges in several European countries.
