There’s no doubt that Lebanon is facing an environmental emergency due to the presence of over one million Syrian refugees, but to claim that one of the key reasons for that is the Syrian crisis is quite absurd to say the least.
We are living in an environmental catastrophe on all levels in Lebanon, and for key reasons that have nothing to do with the refugees:
We’ve been polluting our rivers for years, mainly the Litani one, we burn and dump our garbage randomly, we’ve had a garbage crisis for over 2 years, we don’t have any fire prevention measures for green areas, we don’t have a decent public transportation, our power plants and generators are not eco-friendly, we have more cars than people in this country and the list goes on and on …
Above all, the most important reason for this rising air pollution is the useless Environment Ministry that we’ve had ever since.
