I was reading a post on Ivy Says about a recent issue she faced at one of the Aishti stores. I thought what happened to her was extremely inappropriate and decided to email Aishti myself using their contact us form on their website to make them aware of her post so they could take care of it. After sending them an email and what do I get in return? An automated response informing me that I’ve been added to their mailing list without my consent and not even offering me a link so I could unsubscribe.
Dear Sir or Madame,
We at Aishti would like to thank you for taking the time to write to us.
We would like to let you know that we just added you to our newsletter mailing list. This entitles you to periodic update to all new happenings at Aishti worldwide.
Respectfully yours,
Aishti
I even searched their website for any information on how I could opt out but couldn’t find anything just information on how to opt in. If this was an automated response from my barber Salon Tony I could understand but with a large and now international brand like Aishti you expect a bit more. I’ve already emailed them back about this so hopefully they’ll listen to my feedback and fix this.
Since we are on the Aishti subject, the other day I posted about Aishti’s sale on my other blog which is based in Kuwait. People who didn’t know what Aishti was googled it and ended up at their website… which starts off with a fully naked woman. I don’t have a problem with nudity but you could understand why their customers in the Gulf region might.
Here is the link to Ivy’s post. [Link]
Such media display of nudity is certainly punishable by law in Lebanon.
Sounds more like “disrespectfully yours” to me..
I saw billboards on the street with the woman’s shadow showing but never bothered checking out their website.
Yeah I am pretty sure this is punishable by law.
As far as the Aishti staff are concerned, most of them are annoying and arrogant. A friend of mine once bought shoes and as soon as he got home, realized one shoe was torn. He came back after an hour to reclaim new shoes and was told he tore the shoes and there’s nothing they can do.
Instead of promptly changing the pair, they kept arguing that it was him who did it. So he threw the shoes away and is never stepping back in an Aishti outlet.
I for myself never shop at Aishti. It’s way too overpriced and not worth it.
najib i tend to understand the arrogance of their employees. on one hand they are not allowed to sit (literally) – at least like 3 years ago when my cousin used to work there, and on the other hand most of the people they meet are snob and quite arrogant; you know, lebanese “nouveaux riches” women. anyone would probably turn arrogant there :p.
i’ve stopped in their stores a couple of times (under perssure ;)) but never bought a thing.
Friskies,
It’s not just that simple. Aside from your cousin, most of those workers will become friendly and loving when there’s a VIP client in store but if they see someone asking about prices or not looking that damn rich, they ll turn arrogant.
Honestly, I never understood how Aishti became so big to begin with, I heard through money laundering and I tend to believe it.
Aishti Sucks!… enough said… Najib, but your cousin did a big mistake… he should have thrown the shoes at the bloody manager…
What is the big deal with seeing a naked woman? Who cares about what a bunch of Gulf Arabs think? Do you want Lebanon to start censoring its ads like they do in the backward Gulf countries? Can’t we aspire to something better? What’s wrong with this Aishti image? I find it beautiful, and the woman is sexy without being vulgar. It’s also the first time I see a Lebanese ad with a black woman in it–this is quite progressive. And quite frankly, anything (ANYTHING) is better than having to look at veiled women. There’s nothing scarier than a chador.
hi, I personally always had a great shopping experience at Aïshti, never really had to deal with anything as such.. And I can’t even call myself a VIP client so I suppose everyone gets the same good treatment..
I personally believe is it unacceptable for the youth of the Arab world to be shocked from the nudity. The woman in the ad is shown as a beautiful woman, woman in all her splendor, and there is nothing sexual, pervert or downgrading for women.
We need to assert the beauty and the power of women in all the Arab world, and stop making her look like a stupid housewife using detergent all day.
So out of the kitchen and out of her clothes? I don’t mind that.
There isn’t a big deal in a naked women, the idea is that since Aishti is located around the Arab region they would be more culturally sensitive. If you have a woman dressed in clothes it’s not demeaning to women. I don’t even know how you turned it around into a naked woman means more power and more rights. That doesn’t make any sense.
Nadine: I am not a vip client and I have never had any bad treatment. But, that doesn’t mean that Ivy Says didn’t have bad treatment herself and the fact Aishti aren’t ignoring her.
