BEIRUT: On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, the Health Ministry launched a multimedia campaign Thursday to usher in the final phase of the law which, come September, will ban smoking in all public places.
…
The final phase, which comes into effect Sept. 3, will also ban smoking at all restaurants, bars, clubs, cafes, theaters and hotels (save for 20 percent of rooms), to be accompanied by “No Smoking†signs at these venues also. [Source]
LOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL!
hehehe let’s see how well they enforce it!
I agree, all civilized countries have this Ban.
I am a smoker, and I do hope this law gets enforced.
why LOL ?? that sounded hypocrite…I wish them all the luck to implement the law.. it’s a serious Public Health Issue as well as Cultural one.
Let’s hope they implement it well. Smoking in public buses is extremely annoying, especially early in the morning (along with the sweat smells inside those small Beirut-Tripoli mini vans)
and the arguileh ?
Lah lah laaaaah…
We2ef el MASLLL ..
At least this way you come back from a pub NOT smelling like an ashtray up to the roots of your hair.. (yes, even SkyBar)!
but i do not have high hopes really..
That’s why I found it a joke, I’m anti smoking but no way on earth Lebanon is going to be able to enforce a ban on public smoking. No way on earth.
why no way on earth? can we for once try, if you tell your friends not to smoke inside, that’s a start and it will help for the full enforcement of the law
I’m sick of Lebanese people laughing at everything, as if it doesn’t concern them at all. You are not a third party!
Us? Yes we can try. I’m laughing at the idea the “government” is going to try and enforce this ban.
Trying to enforce the law is definitely worth the try. Seriously, how many times have you seen parents change tables at restaurants so that their kids do not inhale the fumes??
In another setup, however, I can anticipate the reaction of some idiot-on-a-couple-of-White-Labels asked to put out his ciggie: Wlé bta3réf 7élakkk ma333 mmmeen 3ammm te7ké wlééé.. léééshhh ana b-baddé taffé cigartééé??
So unless we plan to ask “gently” (with the support of a BIG GUN), we will have a hard time implementing that law.
Why not allocate a Smokers Area (with mechanical exhaust fans for indoors) such that the smoke does not affect non-smokers?? Many airports have ~foggy~ smoking rooms for that purpose. Avoid passing in front of them. Believe me, it kills…
And for shops that are too small to provide a smokers area, think about the “No Smoking” sign as an invitation to a less toxic atmosphere that many would appreciate..
Laa ymoot eddeeb, wala yefna el ghanammm :o|
