Zaatar W Zeit started charging delivery charges few months back, then Roadster Diner and Deek Duke followed. The charge is 2000 Lebanese Lira regardless of the distance and was set to maintain the quality of the delivery service, as I was told by all three restaurants.
Honestly, Zaatar W Zeit is the only one of these three that needed an improvement in the delivery service and I haven’t seen any major improvements ever since the charges were implemented. Roadster and Deek Duke have a perfect delivery system so the delivery charges are unjustified to me. In fact, it is letting customers tip the delivery guy less because they’re being charged for the service, so unless the charges are going to these guys or they got some raise, they won’t be too happy about it and quality will eventually drop.
I always order from Zaatar w Zeit & so far they’ve always came on time if not before. You do have a point concerning whether the money is really being given to the delivery guy though esp. that we’re in Leb.
If small mom-and-pop joints can afford free delivery, then surely the big giants like ZWZ and Roadster/DD can, too. It’s called goodwill.
Are you sure the charges don’t go to the delivery guys?
I don’t tip the delivery guys when there’s a charge, thinking it will go to them or something. They should make it clearer.
I hope that this extra money goes to educate the delivery guys who dont mind u-turning in the middle of highways, ignoring traffic lights, and driving on sidewalks in some instances. I hope this message would reach the ZWZ,Rdstr and DKDK management.
Totally agree that the fee is unjustified. i called them a month ago to enquire. i frankly didn’tt get understand what they explained to me, was too vague. and they told me the fees don’t go to the driver, and they shut me up with a free meal and desert.
i don’t think i’ll be ordering again. 2000 is way too much, and if u wanna give a fair tip to the driver, you would be adding a couple of bucks to your bill.
Too bad it’s the only 3 i used to deliver from. going back to order from Crepaway, hoping they won’t be charging extra any time soon.
Success just doesn’t suit everyone.
I asked Roadster’s delivery guy about the delivery charge, he told me that the money goes to the company and they don’t receive a cent from it, so i tipped him another 2000 LBP so it turned to pay,an additional 40% (4,000 LBP) of the total bill only for Delivery chargeS
They are now all owned by the same person, that is the reason
Wait…what? I knew Roadster and DD were the same company, but ZWZ too? ZWZ is behind the new Mar Mikhael hotspots Bar Tartine & Tartine Bakery. Maybe this 2,000LL delivery charge is intended to offset the upfront capital investments of those venues.
Danielle,
Yes you are right, Roadster and DD are the same owner.
However about a month ago (maybe 2) Roadster and DD were sold to the group who has ZwZ. It stayed within the family, as the owner of ZwZ was the brother in law of the Roadster owner. I have a lot more details on the purchase including approximately what was paid for the shares. Yes Bar Tartine is also part of the group. The 2000 LL was seen as a way to offset what this person paid for RD and DD, but I personally think it’s just greed 🙂

Hi Sahar,
Yup we have indeed and I still don’t see how your delivery service can get any better as Roadster and Deek Duke.
Eitherway, I know that my comments won’t change much and won’t make me stop ordering from you guys.
Thank you for ur follow-up.

I totally agree! Rd bikers are one of the worst.. I live next to the rd kitchen in achrafieh and they have turned the street into their private playground… they cruise around 10 by 10 and shout all day long.. I think this is very bad for Roadster’s image because everyone around here refer to them as “wazawiz el roadster”.
and this goes way beyond our street… they are driving recklessly everywhere. and its the same for all lebanese restaurants… actually you know what… it’s most of lebanese bikers.. I don’t know maybe its a cult or something 😛 But anw holding a brand’s logo is a responsibility, they represent the restaurant not themselves… so it’s a shame!
A Rd biker hit an old man in Hamra last month while going the wrong way.
The old man got heavily injured and apparently Rd is trying to deny this fact and elude from all this. (even though the delivery boy was the one to take the old man to the hospital and visited him on daily basis).
I believe they are being sued for this.
Fantastic blurb that doesn’t say anything. Two paragraphs of emptiness. Bravo.
