Mohammad al-Nhaily killed his wife Manal after beating her repeatedly with a pressure cooker. Manal was killed in front of her two daughters Tala and Sara. I am still not supportive of the death penalty and I believe he should be sentenced to life and rot in prison.
Update: This is just an indictment not the final sentence yet.
Guys this is only the “قرار ظني” this is only what the prosecution is asking for.
BIG DIFFERENCE from the actual Final Court Ruling.
Hi Salim,
I updated the post. Thanks for that 🙂
I never believed in the death penalty myself, but honestly it’s gotten to the point where i’m rethinking it. Prison in Lebanon is not a punishment, I believe we all know that and you never know “min de3mo”.
I hope he gets the death penalty and is made an example of.
I agree… Akid he knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who can either get him out of prison or make his prison stay more “enjoyable”
I agree with you regarding the prison conditions and everything to do with that.
I also agree with the atrocity of the crime he has committed and no one dares discuss this issue.
However, talking from the level of real justice & human rights; you believe killing him is the right way to go??
Hi Salim,
If you’re bringing human rights and justice into the argument then what about Manal Assi’s human rights and justice?
I think it’s fair that if you take away someone else’s human rights in such a brutal fashion then real justice dictates that you have yours removed as well.
The death penalty is a matter of principle and shouldn’t depend on how atrocious the crime is or how corrupt the prisons are. Accepting it as a punishment option is just the easy way out of the problem..
The death penalty has never reduced crimes in countries where it still exists.
All the arguments against the death penalty are valid and reasonable and I don’t believe in it as a deterrent – however, some animals can’t be rehabilitated and instead of wasting money on feeding and housing a murderer or child molester with a view to releasing them at some point in the future, do society a favour and let them hang.
I understand you point of view clearly. And again we need to make it clear and agree that no one in this conversation is questioning the crime itself, this is as we said not a matter for discussion. We are here discussing the issue from a point of death penalty itself.
As Sarah said it is a matter of principle and is it not related to the barbaric nature of the crime.
I believe justice is not about vengeance, with vengeance we will not get justice, as Gandhi said “An eye for an eye will leave everyone blind”.
Manal’s rights is restored in protecting others from such crimes, I don’t want to sound like I am detached from reality but there needs to be a more civilized and humane ways to dealing with such “human beings”.
I don’t think that Manal’s rights are in any way restored by protecting others. This kind of crime will happen again and again and we can’t keep on sending the message that the next death and the one after that, and after that are ok.
The beginning of the thread states the problems that our prison system is a joke and more like a holiday camp and while I do agree with you in principle about the death penalty, what else is there specifically in Lebanon as punishment?
