Five years after its launch, Uruguay Street is unfortunately shutting down. The pedestrian nightlife spot located just behind Samir Kassir Garden and the Annahar building had at some point over 30 pubs and restaurants. I used to go there quite often after work and it was always packed but the events that took place last year, the security measures taken in the area and the unrealistic rent prices in Solidere forced a lot of pubs to shut down. Main Street was the only pub still open in Uruguay Street in the past few months but according to LBCI, it’s closing down as well.
Not surprising.
Solidere have done everything to turn Beirut into a ghost town.
Beirut Souks next?
it’s ok, there are more important things to be sad about in this country
like destruction of our heritage , mountains, beaches…
we have already enough pubs to get all the country drunk…
Ziad,
No one is crying over its closure. It’s just sad that a hot nightlife spot at the heart of Beirut would close down like that. There are people losing money and jobs because of that.
It s not the point! Solidere is a company that has put its hands over Beirutis’s families heritage, and running the heart of Beirut only to make huge profits! If Beirut downtown is not returned to its initial landlords, it will remain doomed!
Najib will reply to any comment the doesnt like , wallawww Najibb its your youth with your corrupt minded mentality that you all destroyed Leb , not just the politicians
And he will take anything for offence
good riddance, it was too artificial anyway, although i have great memories of nights in uruguay
Maybe now they can actually open up beneficial things, even if it’s in another spot!
It was boring anyway.
This is odd. It was pretty packed when I went there at the beginning of summer during souk el akel, which was one of the few things Solidere did that made sense. What happened suddenly in the last two months?
Yess, it wass , it wads too artificial and the rents were for sure Highh, what’s funny that lebanese rented it out and thry knew the prices were exuberant
