I’ve been wanting to buy a mobile as a gift prior to Mother’s day but I honestly could not find any decent one except the iPhone and the Nokia E72. They are both of different price ranges but they are the best ones to get if you want an expensive and worthy phone or a relatively affordable and practical phone.
I don’t like how Samsung and Nokia are trying to immitate the iPhone regardless of the fact that they are android phones. They could be better phones for all I know but they just look like cheap versions of the iPhone. (Samsung Galaxy S, Nokia N8)
As far as Blackberry phones are concerned, their service is too damn expensive in Lebanon and you could replace it easily by getting whatsapp application and subscribing to the GPRS service. Therefore, except for corporate use, it’s a useless and expensive phone to get.
The iPhone in Lebanon is too expensive still (Around 1000$) and getting it from abroad factory unlocked is a hassle. That leaves us with Nokia phones and the E72 is the most reliable of them all. The previous E71 was a success and the new E72 is even better.
If you guys know of any phone worthy looking at, please share it with me.
it depends what ur looking for.. i have a nokia e72, it’s a pretty good phone, and as u said, with gprs and whats app, it makes bb service way overpriced..
however, the online market for apps and games is very weak, it has nothing to offer, compared to iphone and androids..
the xperia x10 (android) is a nice phone, not so expensive either..
im using Nokia X6, i like it, well i have to like it cz i cant buy another one now, or ever, at least not until it breaks down or i win the lottery 😛
seriously, it is a good device, but the problem with it is its plastic cover, it doesnt look that classy. and it has very low memory (RAM), i cant run Nimbuzz and Opera Mobile with a third application without getting it to scream about low memory.
and as for all symbian S60 models, it’s response is sometimes slow and that doesnt suit me well most of the time.
and regarding your Nokia propositions, i hate these tiny little buttons, i havent used them, but i dont like the idea of pressing these tiny buttons.
so, take a good decision and take your time for what suits u
If you can afford apps, iPhone 4.
I currently have an android phone, it’s good but you cannot buy apps from the marketplace and the updates are limited and not clear (you never know when and if you’re getting them) so my next phone will probably NOT be an android phone.
My dad has the N8 and my brother the C7, the majority of popular apps and games are available for them (Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Shazam, WhatsApp…) and they have great cams. But Nokia will stop making Symbian smartphone (moving to windows mobile 7) but vowed to keep supporting them (2 updates are coming soon). So check them out if they interest you + check the E7 if you need a physical keyboard.
Personally my next phone will either be an iPhone (5?) or a windows mobile 7 phone.
@Amin when buying an Android phone always look for models that are updated frequently unlike the xperia phone or buy Nexus One or Nexus S who are the first phones to get the new android OS once it is available!
Check out HTC. I have a Desire HD, and it’s absolutely delightful.
The great thing about HTC is that their line comes with all sorts of different flavors, so you have both options for Android and Windows Phone 7, not to mention different screen sizes, features, etc… You can be almost certain to find exactly what you’re looking for in a phone.
And you’re right the Galaxy S feels like a toy. You’ll never have that problem with an HTC (although I’m not sure how expensive they are in Lebanon)
I think the iPhone is the ultimate device ever… although i don’t like how the 4 looks, i prefer the looks of the 3gs.
but as Life with Subtitles said, HTC are the best compromise, and when you have used both they are better than iPhones according to a geeky brother in law of mine, he’s in the phone business and swapping phones was a monthly affair until he landed with HTC out of curiosity, now he swears by them, and swears at Steve Jobs all the time…
Iphone construction has gotten really bad in the past few years so they get ppl to keep buying them, which doesn’t work well in Leb if its still at 1,000. If you get it from abroad, make sure you get the newer version so you won’t have problems keeping it unlocked. Oh, and android will be so much better, with android you can even create your own apps online.
