Robert Saleh, Lebanese-American and the head coach of the New York Jets, was seen this week wearing a Lebanese flag on his sleeve as a sign of solidarity with his native country. A couple of days later, Saleh was fired as the head coach, and some news outlets are linking the firing to him wearing the flag, but most reports indicate otherwise.

I am not an NFL fan, but a quick search online shows that Saleh hadn’t performed well in 2023 and that his relationship with the team’s quarterback, Rodgers raised questions earlier in the season.

Whether the flag incident had any impact on his firing is not clear but is not that obvious, especially that he wore it on previous occasions and the NFL encourages participants to represent their backgrounds.

In all cases, that’s the first time I hear of Saleh and I wish him the best of luck in his next coaching endeavour.
