It’s been 17 days since I posted about the accident on the Antelias bridge. One of our regular readers, Ronman, wrote the following comment:
i wonder how long before they fix the railings. he will be charged to pay for it, but it will never get fixed, and next time someone is unfortunate at the same spot, they will fly down and kill someone, maybe then, they will patch it up, but no guarantee unless it kills a minister’s loved one…
I usually never go through Antelias because of the traffic, but I deliberately took the bridge to see if anything had been done to fix the railing.
I don’t know what you guys think, but I’m trying to see the positive side of this huge hole. I think it’s good. This way, the driver gets decapitated before plunging to a fiery death.
Another thing that caught my attention is the fact that the bridge is used as an electricity relay point! Look at all this shit hanging on the railing! I wonder what would have happened if the car had hit this part of the bridge. I’m thinking: accident, airbags deploy, driver gets an electric shock and passes out, the gasoline tank catches on fire, car explodes, falls off the bridge killing people underneath it, some asshole politician does a press conference, everyone forgets about the whole thing 2 days later, and life goes on.
We need more accountability in this damn country!
Oh wow, I usually drive over that bridge at night, I’ve never seen this damage properly.
Another bridge I hate is the one right before this one (bil raj3a), the Jal El Dib metallic abomination. Tight, crazy, annoying, very dangerous during the rain. And the traffic it causes when people pass under it (bil raw7a).
In the end, all the bridges in Lebanon suck in one way or another.
I think it would be fun if the Jal el Dib bridge were to crumble, of course hoping that no one would get hurt because of it, but it would be nice to see how our officials will react to it.
Here’s a photo/post from dec/jan 2009/2010. The 2nd photo is the electrical work for the Christmas lights in the median in Antelias in front of the Armenian Patriarch.

You can count on the Phoenician mentality to create wonders.
Joe,
I don’t know in what context you made the statement…but it is so systemic & typical of that mentality that has gotten Lebanon where it is at! Nowhere land…thanks God we have vivid imagination on what Lebanon looked like in our technicolor dreams…
The last part of that post was definitely inspired by final destination, imagine the material the FD writers would get if they ever come and visit the wretched place..
[We need more accountability in this damn country!]
HAHA…was talking about that to a big shot the other day, and i felt like he got offended… cause if accountability were to ever exist in this shit hole, they can’t be collecting the $$$$ they do now… imagine if all of a sudden accountability was to be enforced, not one politician would make it out alive, not to mention the citizens…
Today a car fell off the bridge, wish I took pictures. It was just next to us. Can you imagine the panic, a car flying and crashing just next to you. Am sure the people inside are smashed, am waiting in front of the TV now to watch the news, as I couldn’t handle to stay there with 2 toddlers waiting in my car.
I don’t believe this country will ever change to good!!!!
Luckily enough, none of them died.

I’m guessing this means the new bridge on the highway, not the one in Antelias next to Halabi restaurant
Thanks Najib! I waited for the news all night yesterday to try to find out something. What a nightmare!
