The Carl Bechstein Foundation has gifted the Beirut National Conservatory six grand pianos and ten uprights valued at over 300,000 Euros, in an attempt to help the Conservatory resume its lessons, following the damages caused by the August 2020 explosion.
Walid Moussallem, the President of the National Conservatory described the gift as an invaluable one “that will now be part of our history and our musical culture, and gives us hope and joy at a very dark moment in our history”. In celebration of the donation, Lebanese pianist Abdul Rachman El Bacha will give a benefit concert on Tuesday 22 March at the invitation of the Carl Bechstein Foundation in the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna.
The Bechstein pianos are considered among the most highly regarded musical instruments, made with the finest materials to deliver exceptional quality. The German piano maker delivers over five thousand pianos evert year.
