I stopped by an IBL ATM last week and noticed something weird… I’m not sure what percentage of the Lebanese population speaks Chinese, but having it as one of the 3 choices in an ATM seems weird. I’m sure it’s Chinese coz I Google Translated it and got the exact same writing. I wonder if the ATM company uses Google Translate as well
From Google Translate
It is not IBL who has the screens…You can notice that this screen contains the following abbreviation: CSC (Credit Card Services) Company which serve many banks in Lebanon and may be one of them asked for the chinese language and now it is available on all banks that utilize CSC services (BTW CSC services extends outside lebanon also)…
They should have French if anything. It’s probably some application they bought and did not configure.
I thought u were bluffing so i checked it also, being the psycho virgo I am…
u r right…

good observation najib 🙂
I think this trend started among banks in the summer of 2010 (could be before that). We had a record-breaking number of tourists in that summer. Back then, I noticed a third language (Chinese or Japanese, I couldn’t tell) with the ATM of Byblos Bank at Jimmeyzeh.
Nidal, i think the ATM software should be customized by country and not be standardized. Why not have Hindi or Spanish? they’re also widely spoken throughout the world

haha – how cool is google translate!
🙂
actually the chinese thingy on the ATM screen is 请选择è¯è¨€ which is Please Select A Language and not Your Language :p (there are 2 symbols in your translation that are not on the screen)..
That’s probably because it’s made in China… many exported chonese products suppprt Chinese
We have the same thing here in Canada- only chinese- we have no other languages on our machines well except maybe French but that’s our official language besides English.
Le français serait-il en voie de disparition au Liban?!
Malheureusement je crois que oui.
