I will never understand how this romantic singer turned into an extremist and an outlaw all of a sudden. It’s hard to believe it was only Al-Assir’s influence that changed his mind. The only other Lebanese singer, that I know of, who turned religious is Rabih el Khawli. He used to do drugs before deciding to go to a monastery and become a monk.
It’s quite hard to compare the two though as the only thing they have in common was their talent (Based on what I hear as I am not a big fan of both).
Either way, let’s hope Shaker will be the last singer who ends up that way, and of course that he gets caught ASAP and put in jail.
PS: Title taken from Le Monde’s article on Fadel
I met Fadl when he came around to the great white north years back. He was always modest; and super religious. He would not shake hands with women and was even more uncomfortable around them. I think it has more to do with people around him. Assir was his ticket to “stardom” again; albeit in a One Way manner. What a loss of God given talent.
Not only Assir who influenced Shakir to be a religious person , but also his brother who actually died defending al assir few days ago.
