There’s a story circulating on Instagram since this morning that MTV & LBC are shadow banned in Canada as people are unable to access the accounts. This has nothing to do with the Gaza or Lebanon war or shadow bans. In fact, this is an ongoing dispute between the Canadian government and Meta which started last year and resulted in Meta banning all news outlets from its platforms as a response to Canada’s Online News Act.

In other words, people in Canada cannot see any news outlets on Meta’s social media platforms, which are Instagram and Facebook. There were rumours that an agreement was reached but nothing has been implemented yet to lift the ban.
