April 30 2018 was the last day of work in sweeping and collecting waste for Sukleen in Beirut. Starting May, another contractor, Ramco if I’m not mistaken, will be carrying out these duties.
Sukleen has been operating in Beirut since 1994 and its contact had been extended twice up until they halted operations in 2015 due to a lack of storage space and the closure of the Naameh landfill. Unfortunately, there’s still no clear solution to the garbage crisis and it is not even a hot topic in the ongoing electoral debates.
PS: I was looking at their FB page and the description is now “Circus in Beirut” lol!
