The Syndicate of professional artists in Lebanon issued a statement yesterday asking artists not to criticize or disrespect political parties or movements, and religious leaders. According to the statement, artists should work on promoting art and culture and refrain from engaging in political debates as per the syndicate’s internal code.
Not that I’m a big fan of Lebanese artists engaging in politics, but promoting censorship under any circumstances is unacceptable. At this point, the syndicate should worry more about how this rotten political class has poorly treated artists for decades instead of worrying about a bunch of tweets.
And I hate to say that, but I’m even against censoring the likes of Charbel Khalil 😂😂.
