In the past two weeks, over 3 thefts were reported in Elissar, Mount Lebanon. A polyclinic, a storage room for servers and IT equipments, and a cellular place were all cleaned out.
One of my friends told me he saw a footage from a security camera showing the four thieves all wearing masks and holding M16 machine guns.
The funny part is that they are targeting commercial centers which should be guarded by a security personnel, yet they are carrying loads of machines and equipments and still getting away with it.
Nevertheless, the security situation in Lebanon is still impeccable and excellent, as confirmed by our minister of interior few weeks back.
Hi Najib,
Just as a side note, great blog you have there! Keep it up!!!
As for the security issue, well it’s better than the previous years right? I mean, every country (even the stable ones) go through such issues! Thefts are a common thing anywhere. No country/government in the world can put an end to these stuff. When the minister says the situation is “fine”, in a way it is! No explosions targeting political people, no violent demonstrations and no fights between people of different sects.
I see your point of view and i truly respect it, but i think we should give the minister a bit of slack on this one :)…
Fadi,
Thank you for the kind words.
As for the security issue, I never said things are not getting better or the minister is not doing a good job but his statements are very bizzare and irrational.
Things are fine but are not the best in the region nor excellent by any means.
Remember the explosion in Antelias and his claims?
The situation is not excellent in Lebanon. Thefts and crimes are occuring more and more and nothing is being done to stop them or minimize them, at least from what I am seeing.
well, thing is, these rooms (the server rooms) are supposed to have good physical security (like metal doors at the least) (best practices) and then, assuming it can be afforded, should have some sort of decent entry control, unfortunately, guns override that if the guards have access (which they shouldn’t), i dunno if any of these would have stopped these thieves, but they definitely would have delayed/deterred them. (i haven’t seen the door so obviously i don’t know, but i’m assuming this wasn’t done)
also, WTF? why would you rob a hospital designed to HELP people?! (or maybe that’s the reason why!)
Maybe, the security responsible for the Centre is responsible of such acts ,I wouldn’t eliminate that possibility, they earn low wages or it could be anyone ,but still I don’t eliminate the possibility of some security personnel getting involved in such acts ,it’s a corrupt world anyway
The mobile phone shop is Raffi’s dude. they stole all his phones and laptop.
I know you told me last day ya kherfen.
