I’ve been planning to try out a new restaurant in Beirut called Um Sharif, but the two times I called, the place was fully booked, last time being yesterday.
It is not very common for a place to be booked on a Wednesday night in Lebanon, knowing that it’s not cheap at all. Indeed, you are bound by a 35$ formula for lunch and a 60$ formula for dinner excluding beverages and arguile.
There’s also a live show (Derbakke, 3oud etc ..) every night that starts at 10:45 pm.
I tried looking up the place on Google and found on Naharnet directory having the same number a place I’ve never heard of called Paris New York located in Beirut. [Naharnet]
I am curious to know if the place is truly worth paying that much money, so I would appreciate if anyone who’s been to that place shares his experience on the blog.
Hello
i went to the restaurant last saturday for lunch, and yes it is a fancy restaurant and the decoration is really awesome.
However,I found that the type of food they present isn’t worth the amount of money that is paid: batenjen, 2arnabit,labne,some knid of berghol, kebbe 2arnabiyye,frik are some of the dishes they offer..In addition the drinks are way too expensive as well as the arguile.. so basically you would have to pay more than 35$ (for lunch)..all in all,i won’t visit this restaurant again..
good luck to you !
Farah,
Thank you for your feedback! Much appreciated!
Question though: Was there a hot mezza at least or just cold mezza and mashawi? and how expensive are we talking for the alcohol?
Hi Najib,
The “hot mezza” that we got was bread, small mana2eesh zaatar, and very tiny plate of sojo2. On the mashawy part, we were four people and each got literally 2 small pieces of tawoo2!!!.
We didn’t order alcohol, but if an extremely average lemonade costs 10,000 L.L then I guess everything else is super expensive.
We ended up paying around $50/person
I went there last Tuesday, and yes It’s quite expensive for a Lebanese cuisine… I’m not going again…
Im curious where is um sharif located, thanks, and also if u have a phone number
Jimmy,
Their number is 01/206206 and they are located in Sodeco on the road where there are lots of restaurants.
You get to Yabani and then go right. They should be there somewhere.
Leila, Basma, Um Sherif,Yasmina hehe very original names:)
If I open a restaurant I wanna name it:
Um Fattoum 🙂
what’s up with those over-hyped expensive restaurants..
At least if they are so expensive, they should give bigger portions. Who knows.
Like I posted in my review of El Falamanki, and even though I hav enever been to Um Sherif, I just don’t understand how Lebanese food can be so overpriced…
That said, I know the owners of Um Sharif (same owners of La Parilla, and Yasmina) we are very close childhood friends, and I will be visiting that restaurant to make my own opinion.
Regardless of the price, however, if the wonders they’ve done with Yasmna and La Parilla are anything to go by, I’ll be going there with no fear for my great expecations and appetite.
I’ll be posting something about that. cheers.
Probably one of the best I have been ,and I eaten at the best.yes decor is clever and chic but if it is the taste of food you worship then this eatery is a must if you are in Beirut .we were 10 on Friday of all nationalities and all say the same
Visited Em Sharif april a year ago, thought it was fantastic , the Decor, the food , so different, new ideas. Recommended it to all my friends ,,,,,
I went back thisMay, was so disappointed in the food. Quality, variation, presentation.
Was like any average coffee shop food. Will not recommend or go back again.
Plz En sharif go back to originality. Haram
