Apple is rumored to begin selling unlocked versions of the iPhone 4 in the U.S. starting at $649 on Wednesday. MacRumors is now reporting that unlocked iPhones have “shipped to Apple Stores this week” and will be priced at $649 and $749 for 16GB and 32GB models, respectively. [Link]
Hoping that this will put an end to the fluctuating and unrealistic iPhone prices that we have in Lebanon. I remember iPhone 4 was being sold as high as 1500$ in Lebanon when it was first launched.

won’t make a difference since Apple was already selling unlocked iphones before outside the US and in Kuwait for example a 16GB iPhone unlocked costs pretty much the same as the US price. So really the problem in Lebanon is the merchants that are greedy and not the lack of supply or high product price.
also is iPhone not Iphone
Not a rumor anymore since it already went live on the Apple store website yesterday.
iPhone Fixed.
As for Lebanon, one of their main arguments was that the supply in the countries selling it was low and they had to pay extra to get it. For example 3 months back, it cost some 950-1000$ to get an iPhone. Three weeks back, the price dropped to 700$ after large shipments came from the Gulf (Dubai & KSA).
So hopefully now they will have less convincing reasons to sell them at high prices as almost everyone has someone coming from the states for the summer.
with every new iphone, prices hit the roof during the first couple of months to stagnate later on.
no matter how prices vary, in case reselling your used smartphone is an option, then it’s iphone that you should go for.
Funny part is that people will still be willing to pay more for an iPhone than other phones for no particular reason except the “cool” factor.
Side note I was able to get a Galaxy S2 here for less than 700$ … not sure why would I go for an iPhone at this price 😛
Although Android is a bit clunky at first use, on the long term the cost to benefit ratio tends to favor Droid phones over IpHoNe. Got a Huawei X5 recently that cost close to nothing (100$ in some markets), and can do everything an IPHONE does and as slick once i finished setting it up…oh yeah and mine runs flash… by the way a Nokia running S60 (mine is an E5) can do the same function reliably at a fraction of the IPhONE price, and these things last forever… still don’t understand the IPHONe Draw… it’s not cool enough… and Apple’s obnoxious control over everything is getting annoying (even the way you spell), not to mention that apple just stabbed so many app developers in the back with their new OS… oh and the IPaD is heavy and useless.
I have an Ipod Classic gen5 and it just seems convenient that they don’t make batteries for them anymore. it takes 4 years for the battery to die, why stop production of them a year before that deadline?? you’re hooked and you go buy another one, that’s the Jobs way….
I don’t buy it… haven’t spent my money on an apple product ever and hopefully never have to.
This is good news! I’m back in the US for now, and was seriously contemplating trading that shitty BB I bought in Lebanon for a proper iPhone.. Thanks for sharing! 😀
