Back in April, Economy Minister was threatening and fining bakeries that reduced the pack of bread from 1000g to 900g. Yesterday, he issued an official statement stating that the pack of bread will be reduced by 100g and be priced at 1,500LL.

What changed? Not much in the last few weeks, and the minister’s calculations don’t really add up, but the decision is taken and will definitely impact thousands of families across Lebanon.

Many Lebanese already cannot afford to buy meat or fish anymore, supermarket prices keep on soaring and poverty is on the rise. The Lebanese authorities need to start investing in local productions, especially the agriculture sector, and supporting well established industries, this is the only way to manage the food crisis and stop prices from increasing further.
