It took only a tweet and an email to fix my friend’s problem. I hope they will fix this bug in their system, but thumbs up for the great customer service.
In details, I tweeted MTC Touch about the problem linking them to the blog post and I emailed the person who helped me set up the 3G pilot testing a few months back. They replied to me within 15 minutes and told me that the problem can be fixed and activated the 1Gb plan on my friend’s number an hour later.
yes mtc are much better than alfa’s customer service

I updated the post. Did not get a feedback on whether this is a bug or this is how the system works yet.
take away lesson: it’s very helpful to have a popular blog about beirut.
whenever the shit hits the fan, you just need to blog about it. the fan will clean itself and the shit which went all over the place will instantly evaporate!
take away lessons 1) these companies are incompetent, 2) these companies don’t care about their customers (i went through the same waiting routine), 3) these companies are incompetent, 4) if i were a lebanese company, i would be ashamed of myself, most companies are sub-par, incapable and unprofessional in what they pretend to be professionals at, e.g: telecoms companies who don’t seem to understand that the money they spent on marketing would probably do them MUCH better if they spent the money on technological improvements (assuming the government would let them), instead, they’re spending time advertising over-priced gimmicks like “set your own dialling tone to let everyone know what kind of lebanese sheep you are!”
end of rant, i’m getting annoyed just ranting.
or it could be that they have some sort of restrictions on their billing system and they can’t afford to make this option general rule so they just apply it upon personal request
when calling customer support isn’t enough of a personal request, the company has issues.
let me put it this way, i was willing to DITCH my blackberry service and activate 3G, even if it meant losing the bb service, it would basically be paying double. there is no loss for them, only gain. it is incompetence.
