Picture Taken from NowLebanon
That’s great news for Lebanon’s first ‘civil’ couple but not so much for the baby as I don’t know yet how they will be able to register him given that Minister Charbel has yet to approve their marriage. What is confusing to me though is what Minister Charbel stated in NowLebanon’s article.
When asked how the baby would be registered if he does not sign the marriage contract, Minister Charbel answered: “Kholoud Succariyeh and Nidal Darwish had a religious marriage so they can have the baby registered. In any case, I am waiting for the Consultations Committee’s response before making the appropriate decision.”
I wasn’t aware that they had a religious marriage. Why go through all this hassle if they had a religious wedding? Am I missing something?
I’m just guessing, but I assume that they went ahead with a religious marriage as a fail-safe in case things didn’t work out with the civil marriage, especially considering it’s unprecedented and there is no guarantee it will be approved. In that case, they’re at least still viewed by their families and friends as being a legitimate married couple, which is also extremely important in terms of children. Even though their civil marriage hasn’t yet been approved, no-one could claim that their child is a “illegitimate” because they went through with the religious ceremony. It’s a means of personal protection during what will likely be a long, drawn-out campaign.
The two are not mutually exclusive: people all over the world do both religious and civil marriages. In the case of Khouloud and Nidal, they chose to register their civil marriage, not the religious one. This is where the issue lies.
They had a Katb kteb so yes they do have a religious marriage
now the question remains how Christians should get civil marriage if they wish to have one!
Poor country ,doomed by religious devision and sectarian strifes
How could they have a religious marriage, is they both struck their sects from their IDs!? Did they re-register themselves??
These guys are a scam. They’re just looking for their 15min of fame.
If they really believed in civil marriage, they should have NOT gone through a religious marriage BEFORE. They’re 2 legally married people that decided to pose for media claiming they’re fighting for civil rights.
