the streetlights in my street are on nearly 24/7, this is probably a major loss of electricity if you count how many (working) streetlights there are around the country during the day.
technical problems are possible occasionally, but they shouldn’t be on year-round whenever there is electricity.
I agree, this is a waste. Also, have a trip from Beirut airport to Byblos at night, mainly from 1:00 till 5:00 in the morning : Why do we need all the shop lights (Fluorescent and commercials) on during that time ? Are we really advertising between 1 and 5 in the morning !!!
I use “Waffir” on iphone to report such dysfonctions.
The more people use the application, the more useful it becomes. Plus it’s veeery simple & fast.
To the app store!(free)
Waffir is a great app and the UN will use it in 32 countries.
Streetlights are the responsibilities of municipalities except for the ones in the Highways which fall under the responsibility of CDR.
Both are not paying to EDL so they don’t manage them well.
The solution is to use photosensors , timers and solar streetlights. A lot were distributed for free by the Ministry of Energy and Water.
Here is a cool TVC abt it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z0oBhLY-YU&list=PL7532D8F4498C333F&index=1
