A potential cholera case in the northern region of Akkar has been confirmed by the Lebanese officials. This marks the first cholera case since October 2022 prompting the Health Ministry to activate its national cholera response plan and implement containment measures. The outbreak in 2022 was only contained in July 2023.

The infected individual is a woman from the town of Sammouniyeh in Akkar who was hospitalized with severe dehydration and acute watery diarrhea. Since then, the minister has been collecting samples from those in close contact with her to identify any additional infections.
