The first time I called WISE to check if they are going to upgrade their internet packages was in October. Back then, they made me wait until December only to inform me that Wise machines can’t be upgraded!
I stayed on my 512K connection until WISE called me back in January 2012 informing me about their DSL packages and offering me the 150$ installation and machine fees for free, or something like that. The deal was good so I prepared all the necessary papers and emailed them. I chose the 2MB – 20 GB plan for 50$.
I was eagerly waiting to have a decent connection at home once and for all until I was informed by WISE that my phone line cannot handle more than a 1MB connection, and that I should check with the local “Central” (Government Telecom center).
Why the hell doesn’t anyone inform us about such things? Just thinking of the hassle I have to go through to upgrade my phone line, if that’s even possible, is depressing.
I guess I have to stick to the 1MB for now.
PS: I would say thank God for 3G but the service has been so crappy lately that I don’t even know where to start.
Why are you going with WISE and not say IDM?
My recommendation is to get a second opinion. In kuwait one ISP would tell you your limit is max 2Mbps but another would tell you its 4.
Plus it changes. For example when I had DSL as home my provider told me my max was 2Mbps but right now its:
Max Attainable Line Speed
Down: 3.6 Mbps
Up: 675 Kbps
I am gonna change to ADSL which should be the same for everyone as the packages are given by Ogero. It’s the same people from Ogero who check the line speeds if I am not mistaken. WISE, IDM and others are in the middle and provide u with the modem.
I had WISE from the start and didn’t want to change and pay some 200$ fees for installation and a new router and machine. WISE offered to pay them if I wish to upgrade and I say fine, but the problem seems elsewhere.
I asked a guy who knows about those things. He told me that Ogero checks the line speed and if the “Central” can’t handle more than 1MB, then this should be the case for everyone in Jounieh.
the issue is very clear, the minister of telecommunication (Nicolas Sehnaoui) who is also the CEO of BLC Bank (Fransabank Group) wanted to claim a certain achievement so he made a huge campaign saying that he was behind the internet upgrade in all over the country!
at the end it was obvious that our telecom infrastructure is BULLSHIT so his dreams would never come true! But the weird thing is how would Lebanese accept this statuco without seeing anyone claiming that the Minister lied on us and that he was silly enough to take a decision without knowing that the infrastructure can’t handle his decision ?
Now i can confirm that Media is the Key and that BLC bank had to pay a lot for the Media to stop all kind of critics to the internet situation in a way that the lebanese people who has a memory of max 64 KB forget the issue and care for what is happening in syria for example:@
Najib you should switch to terranet they are great and the 3G speed in lebanon is fast i got 4 mps on my iPhone and in the usa with sprint 3G i got 2.5 mps
IDM used to offer 8GB (up or down) per month for $19+VAT. Now it appears to have lowered to 5GB COMBINED! Could you please investigate in a new post as to why the hell this is happening??? It is like they raised the price again!
