So they pressured Mashrou3 Leila to drop their opening act but went(or probably sent one of their supporters) to the concert to protest? I am not sure the guy is a BDS fan or member but it sure looks like one.

hey guys, your analysis of the mashrou3 leila story is not very constructive. why not use your power to enrich the debate instead of copying superficial comments? respect.
What exactly did you have in mind? I’ve been constructively trying to analyze this whole boycott strategy for a year now and people are still doing it.
There’s nothing to enrich. Mashrou3 Leila ruined any chances they had to grow bigger by dropping this act and BDS still don’t want to understand that we are all against Israel but Art & Music have nothing to do with it.
Last but not least, either you apply the boycott to everything or you don’t
Hi Najib, I appreciate your reply.
In your post, not only are you mocking the boycott moevement (which is fine, you are free to do that), but you are also clearly demonizing the people who push for it (“they pressured”, “they sent”). At least have some respect for people who are acting out of their way and without any interest, for what they believe in. Also, have some respect for Mashrou3 Leila who may have taken the decision without any “pressure”. Until we hear an official statement, we cannot extrapolate that they were “pressured”.
With much respect.
P,
I am not mocking the movement, I am saying you can’t ask to boycott one concert or a band and attend another or the same one. They are making a joke out of themselves by not being consistent.
As for pressure, what’s wrong with pressure? It’s legal you know and that’s what you do when you invade a webpage or a facebook page with your fans.
Have some respect? On what basis? I don’t see any point behind what they are doing except showing a bad image of Lebanon.
Mashrou3 Leila did not respect their fans by cancelling out without explanation. Imagine RHCP cancelling out their concert the same day, what would the fans say? Kam msabbe byeklouwa?
Ok this is what I mean about constructive analysis.
I agree that Mashrou3 Leila should have made a clear statement to explain. Why do you think they haven’t? I have been trying to understand that.
As for respect, as I said, you can respect the boycott movement even if you don’t agree. I am trying to say that you should avoid demonizing your “ennemy”. You will get your opinion through more effectively.
Finally, at the source of this debate, I don’t see a contradiction in the picture. As boycott-bashers also agree, you can attend the concert and voice your opinion there. Why mock the person? Why link that person to the BDS? there are so many different opinions involved, you cannot generalize. According to this post, you are saying that this person is affiliated with BDS, inconsistent, happy that Mashrou3 Leila cancelled their act, etc. You do know any of this for a fact. You are generalizing, and by doing so, you are not coming off as willing to analyze objectively.
Again, much respect to you for engaging me. Unfortunately I have to log off, I will read you later. Take care.
P,
If you go through the blog you will find tons of posts giving arguments and explaining why I am against such boycotts.
I don’t know why Mashrou3 Leila did not issue a statement but like I said, they lose my respect and the respect of many fans.
As for the boycott movement, No I can’t respect it unless they become consistent and make sense and so far they failed in both aspects.
As for the picture, why would anyone go to the concert and raise such a banner if he’s not politically involved and aware of the boycott campaign happening now? If he’s so, why is he at the concert? Is his love for the RHCP greater than the one for Palestine?
I am not generalizing really since his profile fits one of a BDS supporter or sympathizer. Nevertheless I will amend it just to stay clear.
Watch the RHCP express their love of Israel.
They are either:
– absolute idiots, unaware of what Israel stands for and how artists have been boycotting it for a few years.
– supportive of what Israel stands for.
– apathetic and lacking any human compassion.

Or they are artists and basically say the same thing everywhere they go. Didn’t they say they love Lebanon in the concert??
What the hell man? Seriously what the hell!
With all my respect, if your attitude is “what the hell” then I advise you strongly to stick to “what the hell” discussions and stop giving your opinion in political and critical issues. As much as I like to read your blog normally, I suppose it would be much more fun to read then.
Led,
Let me try this again. Have you ever been to a concert in Lebanon where a foreign band did not express their love for Lebanon? or Held the Lebanese flag during the concert?
Seems to me you missed out on all my opinions prior to that sentence.

Check this video. I think it serves as an answer.

Music and politics should not mix just like sports and politics should not mix. I don’t know who mashrou3 Leila are and quite honestly don’t give a shit. Missing out on an opportunity of a lifetime due to a technicality or a glitch like this one is really ridiculous. I honestly hope they never succeed in their future ventures.
As for bands expressing their love to the country they’re performing in, it happens in every concert out there. It’s part of the program. They sometimes are so disoriented that they don’t even know where they are and mistakenly point that out.
To cut a long story short, life is short, opportunities like this one don’t come every day and if you don’t grab it now then you might possibly never get another one.
Peace
100%
Ohh pleaseee, artists express their love of the country everywhere they go for their own interest,u really think they give a damn about what’s happening in the middle east
As if we Lebanese treat Palestinians with dignity. Before you talk about Israel, look at your own country first.
