Beirut Planting Roofs is the latest experiment by Ziad Abichaker, The “Garbage King”, where he’s teaming up with the American University of Beirut to install vertical planters made out of Eco-board panels on a rooftop and use waste material to produce an edible crop.

In simpler terms, here’s what they did:

– Use 12 vertical planting structures made from eco-boards, the equivalent of 10,600 plastic bags.
– Used 1200 Kg of mature compost obtained from the composting process of 2500 Kgs of food bags.
– After 41 days, each plant held 188 lettuces

In total, over 2000 lettuces were produced over a 50 sqm area.
