When the trailer for “Beirut” came out, almost everyone wanted that movie banned and I remember a certain ministry wanting to file a lawsuit against it. There was even a hashtag to boycott it and claiming Lebanon doesn’t look that way, even though Beirut was pretty much “a sweaty hotbed of terrorism, savagery and barbarism” in the 1980s. The main arguments that the movie wasn’t shot in Lebanon and has no Lebanese actors, but that doesn’t really change how good or bad a movie is.
In all cases, the movie is already showing in theaters across Lebanon and all those who asked for the boycott will probably end up watching it. I’m now intrigued to watch it because it scored pretty well on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.
