I noticed the billboard for the new “Puss in Boots” while stuck in traffic on the seaside road. I wonder why they changed the name from Puss in boots to Cat in boots. I’ve seen posters for this movie in cinemas in Lebanon and they had the word puss in it. Is it because puss is one letter away from the female genital? (Keeping it PG-13). They should rename the movie “Feline in tall shoes”
The film is released as “Cat in Boots” in the UK and other countries. Guess the distributors in Lebanon have received advertising material with the 2 variants, and they have decided to use both…
I can’t find any references online to Cat in Boots. I found the following websites in the UK, and they all say Puss in Boots

Chahe you are right. It is Puss in Boots. AS for Puss it reminds an infection not vagina. 😀
Infection in boots? Maybe some sort of fungal cream can take care of that 🙂
maybe knockoff posters were cheaper than the real original thing lol
Even boots should be changed to match the lebanese style: “Cats bi Sermayi”
This is so funny! Lebanese use the ks & ayr every day in their “greetings”…Yet they are so shy about a pussy! What a messed up crowd.
I think they might have changed it because we’re not used to the word “Puss” being used for cats, not because it will become “Pussy” if we add a “y”.
chou hal balad hayda wlooo … leich ma bichilou kilmet “2ott” min l-arabic dictionary, it also means cat, but sounds a whole lot more disturbing.
The link below says:
“Pamela Abou Chabki, marketing director at Four Star Films, which handles Dreamworks Studios’ releases in the region, said the studio itself chose to change the title to make it more understandable for the region’s multilingual population.”

They did change it in UAE too, which isn’t saying much but at least it means this isn’t just a country decision.
Not the issue funnier, if you check the Empire whebsite the film is “Puss in Boots” while if you check the Grand Cinemas website the film is “Cat in Boots” !!!! what I would like to know is when the films starts in Grand Cinemas would the name of film appear on screen as PUSS or CAT ??
Dear People,
Here is article shedding light on Puss..oops, I mean Cat in boots:

Perhaps they should ban the twilight saga (wait….! that’s not a bad idea :P)…
Come to think of it shouldn’t they change the title of “Toy Story”? The heroes are called “Woody” and “Buzz”!
I live in Dubai so I’m not sure about this, but it appears GRAND CINEMAS which caters for the Gulf region too have used CAT IN BOOTS in their Lebanese theaters as well: http://lb.grandcinemas.com/movies/movie-details.aspx?ci=0&fi=1578
While Circuit Empire kept the original title: http://www.circuit-empire.com/moviesDetails.asp?movieid=1517 so that probably means they did not have to go through the same censorship issues raised for the Gulf market.
