Lebanon’s National Rugby team, known as the Cedars team, won over Serbia 96-4 last week and beat Russia 32-0 over the weekend, boosting their chances to quality for the 2013 Rugby World Cup. [DailyStar]
We have a lot of talented players in Lebanon and I am quite sure we can achieve decent results if we qualify to the World Cup.
I myself played Rugby for two years back when I was in AUB, and I had a lot of fun but it is tough and requires a lot of commitment, not to mention that injuries are quite often, which is why I stopped.

Hey Najib,
It’s too bad that there is not enough awareness of this game in Lebanon. I mean I don’t know anything about it, although i know that our team rocks! All I know is that the rugby played in Lebanon is different than the one played now in the world cup; is this true?
Is there any chance you can give us an overview about it in your next post?
thnx
Eddy,
Indeed there is little awareness on this game and people think of it as a brutal game where everyone beats everyone while it’s truly very technical and demanding and tackles are not random.
Rugby league is very different from Rugby Union. Here’s a link that will help you understand the differences:

Lebanon has a slight advantage in rugby league thanks to its expats in Australia. The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are the main team supported by the Australian-Lebanese community, and quite a few the team’s leading players have a Lebanese background. I wouldn’t be surprised if more than a few of the Cedars players sport Australian accents…
