I’ve been watching the Champions League games for ten years or more, and I’ve been waiting for El Clásico games which oppose Real Madrid to Barcelona every year, however I’ve noticed this year that most restaurants (Roadster & Crepaway for example) and some pubs are covering the game and there’s a lot of talk about it almost anywhere I go.
I don’t know where all this love for Spanish clubs came from, maybe it’s the Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi phenomena spreading to Lebanon but I would not be surprised if you see car convoys cheering for the winning team tonight like what happens during the World Cup.
I am a Bayern Munchen fan but I am cheering for Real Madrid tonight.

I think they’ve always been popular! It’s just that every world cup is giving more and more importance to football viewing in pubs and restaurants, what with the installed tvs and so on during the wc2010.
You should watch the Clasico and these sort of big games in sports pubs like the greedy goose in Monot and Scrum in Saifi. I also heard about a “maison du football” somewhere in Antelias but I haven’t been.

Football in general is getting more popular. I think really good matches being played in the Champions League has to do with that. When people see score lines like 4-2 (Chelsea beating Liverpool 2 years ago), or 4-1 (Liverpool beating R. Madrid 2 years ago), they get excited.
I’m a huge supporter of Liverpool and I remember walking through City Mall wearing a Liverpool jersey, and getting thumbs up from random people and pointing to the badge lol.
But yeah, I think people in general will always watch Real Madrid or Barcelona because it’s those generic games that people automatically will think it’ll be great to watch, filled with goals and exciting. The Spanish league is basically made up of Real Madrid and Barca lol
