Who said Kahwit el 2zez is dead? It’s alive and kicking in Antelias.
Same management, same singer, same mood, same food, different location. Gemmayze cafe just moved locations but is still the same. I just had the most amazing night there.

I was there 2 weeks ago! I have to say that the food wasn’t good at all 🙁 But nice atmosphere! 🙂
I think it is doing a whole lot better than it was on Gemmayze.
You are right Farah, food is not their strong point but it’s not that bad.
sorry but it’s not the same mood and CERTAINLY NOT the same clientele …. it was so unique and now it’s just another araguils and low quality food restaurant, but they’re definitely making much more money than when they were in gemmayzeh. Good for them
What’s up with the sudden nostalgia about this Ahwet le ezez? it’s been there forever and before it was remade the hip people used to laugh at those that used to go there for some backgammon coffee and arguileh, now it’s hip and all of a sudden part of Beirut culture? what clientele are you talking about jf? the posers or the old men of Gemayze that actually funded this cafe for decades before the fascionistas arrived along with the new windows…
I’m all for heritage and nostalgia, but it’s just a cafe, far more symbolic corporations and location have been bulldozed in Beirut and thrown out to sea without as much a whimper…
as for the place opening in Antelias, and the food, as Najib mentioned it was never a great place to eat, as long as the traditional cofee and overall tobacco filled air are still the same, it should be fine…
btw Ronman and just for everyone’s info, ahwet el ezez is not ahwet el gemmayzeh, they’re 2 different places. As for the clientele, i used to pass by ahwet el gemmayzeh during the day and i’d find some well known intellectuals sitting there, and of course some old people who represent the memory of Beirut.
Honest did u go to that place in antelias? i did it once, wouldn’t do it twice, for sure!
i’m also just like u, all for heritage, and really saddened to see all these beautiful buildings being bulldozed. just hope that one day we’ll have some brained politicians who’d do something about it before it’s really too late
