I just read that we’re finally getting 3G in Lebanon. 3G is basically mobile broadband internet only I highly doubt it’s going to be fast and even if it is we will get some ridicules download bandwidth restrictions. I guess if you look at it in a positive way it’s a step in the right direction but I would rather we get better and faster DSL connections with a lot more download bandwidth. [Link]
We need a government first ya Mark, or else we are going back to the 0G.
As much as this sounds exciting and all, but isn’t it better if they work on enhancing the internet network (DSL)
Lebanon has the slowest internet connection, we ranked 186! see for yourself: http://www.speedtest.net/global.php#0
Joe thats what I am saying. Not only is our DSL slow but the 1MB connection has a 10GB monthly bandwidth limit! I download 10GB for breakfast!
Guys, 3G is coming, it’s been on the way since early last decade. when the government took over Cellis and Libancell, both were in the early steps of implementing 3G in Lebanon as one of the first countries to do so and run tests on such systems. but, the gov interfered and culled the deal and in a space of 12 month turned Lebanon’s mobile sector from a leader to rock bottom. Syria (with all due respect) has a better more equipped network than us, and they only started a long time after we did…
All our utility sectors have been sabotaged by years of government to make them worthless for privatization, EDL is a case in point.
Now they are just going to implement 3G, while most of the world is up to 4G.
Heheheh….Maybe in 2020 we will have 3G without HSPA :$, Lebanon is traffic jams on and off line, we are cool people all right but our infrastructure sucks 🙁
Well here’s some insider information! In June-July, the first application of 3G will be issuing USB dongles to use the 3G speeds for computers. Mobile broadband basically. Not sure about the speeds but these reach 4-8MBps in some close parts of the world! If that’s the case, f*** MOT and Ogero’s monopoly over the DSL lines.
Tarek they can hit speeds of 21.6Mbps.
BUT, telecoms will probably lease lines from the ISPs so this is why we will end up with speeds similar or slower than what is currently available with DSL except with even lower download bandwidth.
Oh… Yeah my knowledge is non technical. So we’re stuck with the same ****, different phone line?!?! I’ll check with my friend… He’s on the project with a provider to Alfa…
We are finally moving in the right direction it seems!
Okay So my friend that works at Sony Ericsson just told me that no one yet has the slightest clue who will provide the telco providers with internet. This bearing in mind that all ISPs are slaves of Ogero and we all know how that story ends…
funny that we have the shittiest connection on planet earth i hope the 3g( although its too freakin late ) is good and they will put no restrictions on it. i got banned from my 1 mb connection for downlaoding 150 gbs 😛 in three month.( i would have downloded a terra if i had good bandwidth.) nice blog btw
I believe we will never have a fast and reliable internet in Lebanon, fast internet and Wimax will stay the “Lebanese Dream”.
Good luck to those who still live there!!
Hi guys, I heard that 3G is going to start in June, in MTC touch, but I want to ask if the speed is gona be fast like more than 2Mbps and the download limited or unlimited, thank you
i think Ronman hit the head of the Nail!
i quote:

MEA is another live example.
