Huntley Archives just uploaded a video of Lebanon dating back to 1968 and really does look like a scene out of Mad Men. This video doesn’t have any sound but its street shots taken I think in Beirut and the downtown area. I love how nearly all the men are wearing suits! They will be uploading more videos of Lebanon and once they do will post them here. [YouTube]

Actually, this looks like hamra, near present-day starbucks.
It’s really depressing and upsetting watching videos of Lebanon from the 60s and seeing it to be in a better condition that today!

I was about to say so myself, Simon. It really is sad seeing how the country seemed relatively more developed and civilized (well, except for the dude who appears to be picking his nose at the 1:51 mark :P) than it does today 43 years later!
Oh well, Iran and Egypt in the 1960 were a lot better than they are now…I am not a nostalgic person and definitely would not want to go back to days with NO internet…if the percentage of retarded people in Lebanon grows to a level that bothers me I will leave…the world is big and change can only be good.
