A day before the October Revolution started, Lebanon was ravaged by fires that went out of control. Meanwhile, the incompetent authorities had just found out that their fire-fighting helicopters weren’t working. Why? Incompetence and negligence as usual.

Instead of figuring out a way to fix these helicopters, the government has opted this week to auction them along with five Hawker Hunters. The decision was taken to secure enough funds to buy new firefighting helicopters but I’m not sure who would want to buy neglected helicopters and 60 year old planes. If I’m not mistaken, it was Camille Chamoun back in the 50s who got these Hawker Hunkers to the army.

The real question is: What’s their strategy to fight fires this summer? Police Water cannons maybe? Or maybe wait till all forests are gone and there’s nothing left to save?
