After almost 4 months of bickering between different political parties, the General Labor Syndicate and the economic committees, it seems that we’ve finally reached a solution to the minimum wage raise.
Nahhas’ plan was refused as it should have always been. You can read more details about the adopted plan [Here] and check out the increase you should be getting on your salary in the table above.
The only person happy with this increase is Mr. Ghosn because after getting a check from Mikati few Months ago to cancel the demonstrations he got a new check and maybe some shares from the Lebanese Businessmen association in order to agree with them on this BULLSHIT increase of wages!!
Now we can confirm that Mr. Ghosn has been transformed to MR Tree!

this is hilarious.. the higher the salary, the slower the increase.. the people getting paid 500,000 a month get 175,000 while those getting 2,000,000 get 300,000.. almost double.. none-sense
I didn’t get it till I saw the chart, so thank you Najib making it clear enough.
well does the increase have to be applied for those who get 2000? because an increase in minimum wage should only have to apply to those who are getting minimum wage.. no?
Please explain it to me. Is this across the board inflationary wage hike or is it increase in minimum wage? It seems so convoluted that only the thieves (Lebanese politicians) can comprehend.
Najib any insights?
Jeff,
What they basically did is cancel the 200,000 LL increase in basic salaries they agreed on in 2006 due to inflation, and took into consideration the raises that everyone got since 01/01/2010 due to inflation as well.
So if my basic salary is 1,700,00 and I got a raise of 200,000 LL between 2010 and 2011 due to inflation, I will only be allowed to a 99,000 increase.
Honestly, the adopted plan is not that bad when compared to what communist Nahhas had in mind, and given that the economic committes are ok with it, it means it will not harm them nor will they have to fire people or cut down on their costs.
The only problem is the irreversible inflation in prices that the bickering around this minimum wage issue has caused, as everything went up by 20-30%. I wonder if Nahhas and Ghosn thought about that before they proposed their plans.
Najib…Here’s a documentary about Lebanon showing all the ills and dysfunctional state of affairs! If you have not seen it, watch it. it hurts!

Thanks Najib. My befuddlement is regarding the government control of all wage hikes. That still creates an inflationary spike. I understand the minimum wage increase. However all other salaries should be left to market forces to decide. As for irreversible inflation…Lebanon has become a super expensive place to live. Most Lebanese do not pay rent or pay very low ones. In Canada for example the “rent” or mortgage costs should not exceed 35% of your net income. If Lebanese did not have the “free” rent as well as billions of dollars “sent” home from abroad (whether people working or as “welfare help” form families who are assisting their relatives left behind)…They would be beyond forth world country as far as standard of living is concerned!
Najib,
I was given a raise of 299,000 LBP but then the manager said that it was done by mistake as I am on a one year contract with the company I work at.
Is this true? or even fair? They said, bring us a document that proves else wise and we will give you the 299,000 you deserve.
Thanks for your help!!
Hi Joelle,
If you are a contractual employee, I don’t think you are entitled to a raise cause they might not consider u a full time employee.
Are you registered to the NSSF?
