I am not a big radio fan but since my cd box stopped working and the kit I got for my iPod stopped working as well, I’ve decided to listen to radio stations in Lebanon for a change until I get them fixed.
I don’t listen to arabic music so I did not bother switch to any of the Arabic stations. As for the English and French stations, I listened to Mix FM, Radio One, NRJ, Light FM and Nostalgie and none of them was good enough for me.
All of them, with the exception of NRJ, put commercials between every song or two which is very annoying. NRJ barely puts any commercials but they repeat the same exact songs all day long. I counted on my way back from Kobayat few weeks ago “Mr.Saxo beat” being played 5 times within two hours.
Added to that, none of the stations put good old songs from the 80s and 90s or even early 21st century artists. You barely heard Cold Play, Robbie Williams, Madonna, Radiohead, RHCP etc etc …
What we need is a radio station that plays without too many commercials just like NRJ and targets people between 20 and 35.
I guess I will be back to my iPod or CD Box very soon.
I actually disagree. If anything in Lebanon is rather advanced, it’s the radio stations. RadioOne, in particular, is extremely up to date with new music and has some oldies program too.
CJ,
I don’t know what you mean by advanced but Radio One puts way too many commercials which keeps me away from it even if it has good programs.
Light FM puts good old songs from the 80s and 90s
MIX FM, RadioOne and NRJ all have the same problems. They all play the same mainstream songs over and over again. It’s like they all have the same cd and they keep playing the same shit.
Mix FM Radio One and NRJ keep playing commercial garbage, I really can’t listen to them.
In the morning however you can find some good radio shows. Moreover, MixFM has 80s at 8, during which they play songs from the 80s.
My favorite station is Light FM, I love listening to Tanguy every morning 😛
The rest of the day however I don’t even bother turning my radio on, and directly go for my iPod.
Facing the Beirut traffic accompanied by NRJ and/or Radio One is an oppressive and miserable experience!! One can only take enough Usher, Black Eyed Peas and David Guetta… iPod to the rescue!
I became a Radio Gaga in 1997, back then we had some really good station, or at least their variety made them good. magic 102, hit fm, kiss fm,Pax (the old pax), Rml, even Radio one was far better in terms of programing.
102 and hit had some neat off peak hours programing, but the rules changed and some lost their right to broadcast, and it started going downhill from there.
today the best program for the morning is with Tanguy at light FM, the guy is a bit pushy, and sometimes downright obnoxious, but the variety of his show is ok and he’s got good delivery. but lately he’s jumping from one sponsor to another and that’s getting annoying. I don’t need to be sold yogurt every morning…most of his listeners are loyal, and i think mentioning a sponsor every other day at most is more than enough for said sponsor to get decent coverage.
Radio one’s Gavin has his good days, but mostly he’s off, and that girl with him has the most annoying noise, there’s a new foreigner pitching in, that one seems like she knows what she is doing, and her voice is not assaulting.
in the PM or drive home, i keep jumping because nothing makes sense, Maximus on Radio one is mostly annoying and useless when it comes to giving info, more so that annoying dweeb on NRG…is there a point to his rambling? Simon is back on mix (if i’m not mistaken) and he not back to his old self that he was on Radio one before he left, (or i just out matured him). Light Fm had this good girl DJ, she left and an Irish (i think) one is on, the music is mostly good and there are a lot of good surprises.
the bomb (take it as you may) is that Vinni guy on Melody FM. man is it hilarious, or infuriating to hear that show. my personal favorites are the girls that call in almost completely off on VInny (vinnniiii? btitzakarneh???????) It’s like, go jump off a cliff, or get a room, with no windows and doors…..
oh and has anyone noticed and Radio One charges $0.40 when you SMS them? it’s fine when you are playing a game or requesting a song (you pay for the service) but being charged the same when you send them a tip for their AM traffic report? that’s coordinated theft… at least mention a reminder that they are being charged more than a regular SMS…they are being charged for helping, that’s a first even for Lebanon….
what we need are independent radio stations unlinked to the Regies…that are fueled by true musicians backed up by salesmen…rather than just run by pencil pushing, bean counters… oh yeah and we need a good traffic radio station with a proper RDS broadcast.
i wonder when DAB radio broadcasts will start making it to the country. but i guess until most cars have DAB receivers that will take time before it becomes sustainable.
there are some good broadcasts on AM i accidentally found sometime ago, have yourself a go at night sometime…
and someone has to tell the DJs, that sometimes the world’s top 10 is not so good sounding. not because it’s a hit means it’s a good hit.
Zaydoun at least you’re not stuck with Linda or Dr Labouche!
uhmmm..I like Radio One!! :)… im listening online..im like super bored here in the Ofc
uhmm..i dunno..there’s no commercial when im listening to Radio one..hehehehe…
You are either working for Radio one or think commercials are also songs.
lol…im in the Philippines..and when I listen to Radio One its like…. 1 am in Lebanon.. 🙂 just saying 🙂
choobz, what made you listen to a Lebanese station from the Philippines?
hehehehe…bec my gf is a Lebanese.. hehehe..plus I just want to know what kind of Music listen to there in Lebanon
*”what kind of music you guys listen to there in Lebanon..
sorry sticky keys… 🙂
Well It’s basically a mixture of arabic, french and english songs we get on the radio.
Mix FM, Radio One & NRJ are all English new hits.
Light FM and Nostalgie are more into French and oldies.
There are tons of Arabic stations as well playing Arabic songs ranging from old traditional Fairouz to new Arabic hits.
I guess I’ll stick with Radio One…I am a Fil..I grew up in Saudi Arabia.. but I never really understood Arabic 😉 …my Gf tries to teach me but Damn…its soo hard to study Arabic ;)….or am I just too dumb….anw thanks for the Info @Najib… i really love hanging out in your blog..hehehe
I missed Magic 102 !!!! what do you think guys?
